First of all ...learn how to model! This isn't a joke! You need to look at the pics of you that you really do like and see what it is that made you think it was a great pic. I always look at mine and see a head tilt that I like and a genuine smile that makes me like the photo. I know to hide my double chin and I know what is my "best side".Its always gonna be a winner when I do this..so if it ain't broke then don't fix it right?
If its going to be a professional pic then make sure you get your makeup done. Or get a lesson. Its a must to match your make-up to your neck! Its best to go with light to medium colors on lips and not too glossy as it can look like a bright spot on the lip. Be vigilant in covering dark circles with concealor. Make sure you put some color in your face especially on the apples of your cheeks because the lighting can wash out 50% of the makeup out! Having your eyebrows professionally shaped is probably one of the biggest things you can get right!
It gives your eye make-up a great place to be!
Having a fuller hairstyle is always better than tying your hair up. You don't wanna look like a pinhead! A little fuller than usual will work just fine and settle down on your way to the shoot.
As for wardrobe. Picking out an attractive neckline is key, It frames the face and puts the focus on you! Pick solid colors that compliment you. White or black can have nice impact in certain situations but usually a nice jewel tone is great on most complexions.
Too much jewelry can be distracting but one nice piece can be interesting. Be careful on this one.
As far as the photo goes..listen to your photographer and ask for their honest opinion.Good communication is key in any relationship! Ask for brutal honesty and listen to their cues for positioning your body. If they say suck in your gut! then do it! Chin up ...chin down..shoulders back..sit up or stand up straight. smile and
Hold your head up high!
A nice solid background can be nice but there's nothing better than nature. Some water, trees, your own garden can make a photo special and give you that natural light that you need and we all look best in. Flash is an option I reserve for desperate situations. Your pro photographer can light you nicely but flash is harsh!!
If a friend is taking your photo..try a bunch of different things. Angles pointing down, etc can look fabulous. Check out the images on the digital camera so far and if its something you like then shoot 25 of one look. You're bound to get a winner the more you shoot!! Don't keep changing the scene if its working! Keep trying different looks and smiles and don't be embarrassed! You can conquer this!!!
